Field Applications Engineer for Mil/Aero
Job Summary
Applications Engineer with experience in working with Military and Aerospace industry Tier 1 and Tier 2 company engineers in selecting the proper electronic component(s) for their application. Multi-layer capacitor, single layer capacitor, inductor, and resistor knowledge including some high voltage and safety cap applications is highly desirable. This person will be responsible for engineering design customer support and valuation/validation assistance through the use of factory engineering resources.

This person will report to the Eastern Regional Sales Manager

Essential Functions
  • Create customer specifications, engage customers to finalize design and qualification to achieve a design “win”.
  • Network throughout the Mil/Aero companies to seek new opportunities
  • Drive design and development of our products and/or customer qualification programs by working with each individual factory Applications Engineer, PM (Product Manager) or BDM (Business Development Manager) as needed to align Johanson product offering.
  • Improve/modify current products’ performance and reliability as required by the market and/or customer specifications by utilizing factory resources
  • Respond and support to customer technical issues immediately as they arise even while traveling.
  • Work alongside the headquarters’ R&, design team, and applications engineering as needed to satisfy customer inquiries.
  • Travel back to U.S. factory as needed for training and/or working with Factory Application Engineers
Expectations
  • Generate a minimum of 3 opportunities per month
  • Obtain 20 Design Wins per quarter
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibility for Confidentiality
This position requires confidentiality; the company has many Non-Disclosure Agreements with customers who require confidentiality and occasionally Applications Engineering will work with ITAR controlled documents. As such, US citizenship or permanent resident status is required.
Work Environment
This position will likely be based out of the home office, and requires travel throughout the Western US and Canadian territory. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop, cell phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Traveling via automobile, train, and/or airplane.

Position Type/Expected hours of work
This is a full-time non-exempt position. Forty or more (40+) hours within a workweek.
Travel
Must be able to travel national and occasional international
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excel
    • Exploding a price summary sheet into ten thousand or twenty thousand part numbers and correctly assigns prices to each of those part numbers.
    • Create Macros to aid in creating the individual part number / price list.
    • Ensure thorough and accurate pricing for all part numbers.
    • Configuring this spreadsheet for import into our CRM system.
    • Competence in pivot tables to summarize data for management.
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM
    • Importing these into our Microsoft CRM system
    • Running a Microsoft Power Automate process to revise/update pricing on part numbers.
    • Create procedures and techniques to maximize CRM use and minimize time required to enter or update data.
    • Participate in implementation team meetings and take a leadership role (working closely with the VP of Marketing) on the implementation of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM system
  • Establish rapport with sales teams and other departments to ensure a sense of team in training, all assignments and daily operations.
  • Proven track record of successfully working autonomously, while enjoying the opportunity to work on team-based tasks and projects
  • Proven experience in a global environment working with numerous Johanson locations
  • Strong/proven problem solving skills across multi-disciplinary skill sets and ability to function in a start-up environment
  • Strong ability to effectively prioritize competing requests, while keeping lines of communication open and the sales team satisfied
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Tools
  • SharePoint experience a plus
  • Excellent English written, verbal and presentation skills
Required Education and Experience
  • BSEE with 5+ years of related experience
  • A minimum of 4 years of extensive experience dealing or working with North American Military and Aerospace companies, be a self-starter, possess adequate management skills, require minimal supervision, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Able to read and interpret basic schematic design
  • Be familiar with resistor technology
  • Basic knowledge of power supply technology
  • Must pass ITAR requirements for ITAR related opportunities
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and expert knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
