Chip Antenna Design Assistance, Tuning, and Characterization Services
Optimize your RF performance with Johanson Technology's expert chip antenna design assistance, tuning, and characterization services.
Our specialized team helps design engineers achieve precise antenna performance by offering comprehensive support from design to production.
Step 1: Pre-Fabrication PCB Review
Get up to two complimentary layout reviews from our expert RF engineering team before you manufacture your prototype PCB. This ensures proper antenna placement, impedance matching, and isolation—maximizing your system's radiated efficiency from the start.
What’s included:
- PCB layout review by experienced RF design engineers
- Antenna footprint, placement, and clearance recommendations
- Optimized grounding and RF trace layout
- Antenna model and location guidance specific to your application
- Detailed suggestions for integration of Johanson SMD chip antennas and filters
- Pre-fab feedback designed to reduce rework and improve first-pass success
An NDA agreement can be initiated if required for confidential projects.
Step 2: Antenna Matching, Tuning & Radiation Testing
Once your prototype board is assembled, send us a fully populated version (with all SMDs, shielding, batteries, and enclosures). You may leave the antenna and matching component pads unpopulated—we’ll take care of the precision tuning.
What We Do at Our Camarillo RF Lab:
- Mount Johanson chip antennas and tune the circuit with High-Q Capacitors and RF Inductors
- Characterize antenna performance on your actual board using passive signal injection
- Perform full 3D radiation pattern testing in our in-house anechoic chamber
- Measure gain, efficiency, and isotropic response
- Adjust matching circuit to center the resonance frequency for your target band (e.g., Wi-Fi, BLE, LoRa, Sub-GHz, 5G, DECT NR+)
- Modify PCB if necessary for tuning access, including probe addition or housing cuts
Deliverables You’ll Receive:
- Matching circuit schematic with final Johanson component values and part numbers
- High-resolution 3D radiation plots
- Measured radiated efficiency and gain
- Board returned upon request
