High Frequency Inductor Modeling utilizing MLISoft®
Johanson Technology’s line of high frequency ceramic inductors is engineered for RF applications requiring performance, precision, and compact size. These inductors feature a spiral conductive element printed onto a ceramic core, delivering stable inductance values and excellent Q performance across frequency ranges.
Available Package Sizes and Inductance Values
- 0402 size: 1.0 nH to 100 nH
- 0603 size: 1.5 nH to 220 nH
- 0805 size: 1.5 nH to 680 nH
This product line supports a wide range of RF designs, including filters, matching networks, and impedance transformation circuits.
MLISoft® Simulation and Measurement Data
To assist RF design engineers, Johanson provides MLISoft®, a free inductor simulation tool that delivers key data in both graphical and numerical formats.
Features of MLISoft®
- View Q values at any frequency up to the inductor’s self-resonant frequency
- Access and download S-Parameters and SPICE models
- Plot frequency response curves for better RF circuit modeling
S-Parameter Measurement and Configuration
Johanson Technology performs precision measurement of inductor S-Parameters using the HP8720C Vector Network Analyzer. Data is captured using two test fixture configurations:
- Series configuration
- Shunt configuration
Both fixtures are designed by Intercontinental Microwave and utilize TRL calibration for accuracy. Users can download both series and shunt .s2p files directly from MLISoft®.
Visit www.icmicrowave.com to learn more about the test fixtures.
Q Factor Measurement and SPICE Model Accuracy
The Q factor is measured using an HP4291A Impedance Analyzer with the HP16192A test fixture in series mode. Shunt-mode Q is not reported due to fixture limitations.
How MLISoft® Derives Q
- SPICE models are created by fitting measured S-Parameters and Q data
- Q values shown in MLISoft® are derived directly from these calibrated SPICE model components
